Node.js backend development
We build and improve the server-side systems that business applications depend on: APIs, data models, integrations, authentication and background processing. Our Node.js work is written in TypeScript and structured so it stays understandable as your product and team grow.
The challenge
Node.js makes it fast to get an API running, and that speed is part of its appeal. The trouble usually starts later: business logic spread across route handlers, inconsistent error handling, missing input validation, and slow endpoints that nobody has had time to investigate.
For a growing product, those issues show up as bugs that are hard to reproduce, integrations that fail without anyone noticing, and new features that take longer each time because developers are unsure what they might break.
We build Node.js backends with clear structure, explicit contracts and appropriate tests from the start, and we can step into an existing codebase to find and fix the problems that are slowing your team down.
Services
Well-documented APIs with consistent conventions for validation, errors, pagination and versioning, built with Express or NestJS depending on the project.
Data models, migrations and query design on PostgreSQL or MongoDB, chosen based on the shape of your data and how it will be accessed.
Moving slow or unreliable work, such as emails, report generation, imports and third-party calls, out of the request cycle with queues and retry handling.
Secure sign-in, session or token management, role-based access control and integration with identity providers where appropriate.
Server-side connections to payment providers, CRMs, messaging services and other external systems. See our API integration services for more detail.
Reviewing an existing Node.js application, migrating JavaScript to TypeScript incrementally, adding tests around risky areas and addressing performance and security issues.
Use cases
You need an API that serves a React frontend or mobile app, handles accounts and permissions, and integrates with a few external services.
Response times have crept up as data and traffic have grown. We profile the application and database to find the actual causes rather than guessing.
The developer or agency who built your backend has moved on. You need someone to understand the code, stabilize it and keep shipping features.
Imports, exports or third-party calls are timing out in web requests. A queue-based design makes that work reliable and observable.
Our approach
For new builds we clarify the data, integrations and access rules. For existing systems we review structure, dependencies, tests and known problem areas first.
We pick the framework, data store and module structure that suit your scale and team. A well-organized monolith is often the right choice; we do not add services you do not need.
We agree on API contracts and data models early so frontend and backend work can proceed in parallel, then build with validation and tests around business-critical logic.
We add structured logging and error tracking, document the API and setup, and make sure your team understands how the system fits together.
Technology
We choose tools for each project based on your requirements and existing systems.

FAQ
Both, depending on the project. Express is lightweight and works well for smaller services or existing codebases. NestJS provides more structure out of the box, which helps on larger applications with several developers. We will recommend one based on your needs and keep using whatever an existing project already runs on unless there is a strong reason to change.
We can investigate them. We start by measuring where time is actually spent, often in database queries or external calls, and then propose specific fixes. We cannot guarantee a particular result before seeing the system, but we will share what we find and what we expect each change to address. Our article on common Node.js API performance problems covers typical causes.
No. TypeScript can be adopted incrementally, file by file, alongside existing JavaScript. We usually start with the most frequently changed or most error-prone areas.
Node.js is a good fit for most web APIs, integrations and I/O-heavy workloads. For heavy numerical computing or certain data-science tasks, other languages such as Python may be more appropriate, and the two can work together. We will tell you if we think a different choice would serve you better.
